Cobram Estate Reserve Extra Virgin Olive Oil
is made using our Ultra-Premium method of production. The oil is extracted within two hours of picking. The malaxing temperature is around 68ºF and the malaxing time is less than one hour. The FFA will be 0.2% or less and the organoleptic assessment must return a result of minimum eight out of ten.
Established in 1998, Boundary Bend Olives is Australia’s largest producer of extra virgin olive oil. We have two groves in Victoria. Our flagship grove is located at Boundary Bend on the Murray River, 6 hours’ drive northwest of Melbourne. Boundary Bend Estate is the culmination of a dream for visionary horticulturists Rob McGavin and Paul Riordan. Extensive research led them to a well-drained, fertile red soil broad acre site near the Murray River where one of Australia’s largest olive groves thrives in an ideal dry Mediterranean climate. The characteristic cool winters and long hot growing season are ideally suited to the production of high quality, high yielding crops.
To date almost 3,500 hectares of olive groves at Boundary Bend Estate has been developed, an efficient horticultural project that has set peak performance standards for the Australian olive oil industry. The largest area of estate is located approximately one kilometre south of Boundary Bend on the Murray Valley Highway with the remaining area located near Wemen also alongside the Murray River.
Our other estate at Boort is one of the world's largest single estate olive groves, located in the Boort district, 120 km northwest of Bendigo in Victoria. The estate comprises more than 900,000 trees on an area covering more than 2,700 hectares.
The estate has on on-site olive processing plant which is capable of processing more than 46 tonnes of olives per hour or 1,104 tons per day, to make premium extra virgin olive oil. Leading varieties produced on the estate include: Arbequina, Barnea, Coratina, Frantoio, Leccino, Koroneiki, Manzanillo, and Picual.
The source of irrigation for the grove is from the Waranga Western Channel, which runs through the site and comes under the control of the Goulburn Murray Water Authority. The grove is irrigated by water piped from the channel which is fed through a sophisticated micro-irrigation system that includes two rows of drip irrigation on each row though the Grove.
